“The students participating in the NYBPC are the entrepreneurs of tomorrow, and their resilience and ability to adapt was made evident as the competition pivoted to an online platform at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic,” says Noa Simons, NYBPC Director and President of The Capital Foundation of New York. “As college campuses across the state closed down, students and organizers used technology and innovation to move the competition forward. Thanks to the support of our event partners and sponsors, the program was able to continue through the spring.”

This year, nearly 1,000 people participated, including students and faculty from 50 colleges and universities all over New York, and business professionals as mentors and judges from New York and beyond. Over 500 students on 242 teams competed statewide with 88 teams moving on to the Finals.

About The NYBPCThe New York Business Plan Competition (NYBPC) is New York’s intercollegiate business competition. The program is administered through the Capital Foundation of New York, the educational arm of the Upstate Capital Association of New York.  The statewide NYBPC steering committee and regional organizers in every region all volunteer their time to coordinate and execute the program. Funding for administration and prize money is provided by sponsors and philanthropists who support the innovation economy, including NYSERDA, NY Ventures, NYSTAR, and several successful entrepreneurs. Since 2010, more than 5,000 students from public and private New York community colleges, 4-year schools, and universities have pitched their ideas and ventures at the NYBPC. More than $1M in prize money has been awarded to over 150 student-led ventures, and many successful companies have been launched through this platform, including SparkCharge, Farther Farms, Purple Sun, Buffalo Automation Group, Vital Vio, and many more.
