Dr. Elizabeth Miller
Alice Wong, President, is a veteran prosecutor in the Homicide Unit of the Sacramento County District Attorney's Office. In 2001, Alice worked across communities to gather input, establish collaboration, and secure support in writing and receiving a $150,000 federal grant that developed and implemented the first ever District Attorney's Citizens Academy. The goal of the Academy was and is to understand the disparity and fill the gap between the criminal justice system and minority communities. The 10-week bi-annual Academy continues today in bringing together community leaders from the Asian Pacific Islander, Hispanic, African American, Slavic, GLBT (Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender), and Muslim communities with the criminal justice community to provide mutual exchange and sharing of information, resources, and learning together as a diverse community.

Alice served on the Founding Board of My Sister's House (MSH), the first domestic violence shelter in Sacramento to specifically identify and address the unique needs of women and children in the Asian Pacific Islander communities impacted by domestic violence. As the Board President, Alice chaired the first ever MSH Fun Run ~ Race for a Safe Haven in 2003, and brought over 1200 runners/walkers from cross communities in raising awareness on domestic violence and raising over $70,000. MSH is a member organization of CAPITAL. CAPITAL's outreach and participation were instrumental in the success of this first ever MSH Fun Run. Alice currently serves as the Public Safety Liaison Officer and Chair of the Marketing and History Committees for CAPITAL.

Carole Chong, Vice President, is the manager and paralegal at the Law Offices of Jerry L. Chong. Carole chaired the CAPITAL Foundation Scholarship Committee in 2004, raising and awarding $105,000 in scholarships to high school and college students. The scholarship recognized and encouraged diverse leadership in minority and underrepresented communities.

Carole has also supported, participated, and served on numerous projects, programs, and organizations such as the Sacramento Asian Sports Foundation, Asian Pacific Rim Fest, Asian American Network for Cancer Awareness, Research & Training (AANCART) and MSH Fun Run Committee. She was the treasurer for the RMHC/CAPITAL Scholarship Program which awarded over $300,000 in scholarships in three years. She also served on the executive committee for the Martin Luther King Celebration Dinner. Carole was on the committee and organized the first Building Bridges Dinner called "Balance and Hamony" between the Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC) and CAPITAL. In 2005, Carole was the recipient of the Asian Bar Association of Sacramento's Community Service Award and the Lambda Community Fund's Building Bridges Award

Stephanie Nguyen, Secretary is a local product of Sacramento, graduating from McClatchy High School and then California State University in Sacramento with a Liberal Arts degree. She taught briefly but quickly gravitated to business ventures. She currently works as a Business Development Agent for title companies, training and helping realtors develop their businesses.

Stephanie is the current Vice President for Asian Resources Inc. and the Committee Chair of the Fortune Festival event. She is a contributing writer for local Vietnamese magazine, B & N Magazine. Stephanie served on MSH Fun Run Committee, chairing the Volunteers Committee - successfully bringing together and managing over 100 youth and young adult volunteers and raising awareness on domestic violence in Sacramento. Stephanie worked extensively as a committee member in the Tet Festival in 2004 and supported the 2004 State Fair in their cultural shows and cooking demonstrations, bringing the Vietnamese culture to the Fair. She is a graduate of the Sacramento District Attorney's Citizen's Academy. Stephanie continues to empower the Vietnamese community by her involvement with CAPITAL.

Shu-Yuan Yeh, Chief Financial Officer is a certified public accountant (CPA) and works for the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans), Division of Accounting. She supervises a group of professional staff that ensures proper accounting and recording of departmental cash receipts of 30 to 50 million dollars monthly. Prior to her position at Caltrans, she worked for the California Department of Finance as management auditor and worked for public accounting firms as staff accountant.

Shu is currently serving as treasurer for the Sacramento Chinese Culture Foundation, an organization with a mission to promote and foster Chinese culture. Shu also served as treasurer for the Sacramento Taiwanese Association for many years. Shu was one of the founding members of CAPITAL and the Chinese New Year Celebration Alliance.

Jerry Chong, Chief Legal Counsel is a prominent trial attorney in Sacramento, specializing in criminal defense, torts and personal injury cases. He is a decorated Marine combat veteran of the Vietnam War. Jerry has been an active advocate in the Sacramento Asian community for over 20 years. His history is that of inclusiveness, developing alliances and building trust, friendship, and relationship with cross communities.

A trailblazer, Jerry is the founding member of the Asian Bar Association of Sacramento, National Asian Pacific American Bar Association, Chinese American Council of Sacramento, Pacific Rim Streetfest, Asian Pacific Rim Foundation, Sacramento Asian Sports Foundation and CAPITAL. He served as Board President of the Asian Bar Association of Sacramento, Asian Pacific Bar of California, and the Sacramento Asian Sports Foundation. Today, all of these organizations are active and vibrant in Sacramento and California. Jerry currently chairs the Sacramento County District Attorney Multi-Cultural Council and the California State Fair Cultural Advisory Council. Jerry is also the legal counsel to ten Asian service, advocacy and community organizations in Sacramento and Yolo County, providing countless hours of service and counsel to these organizations.

Ryan Chin, Board Member is the Director of Strategic Marketing at Sacramento State. He received his undergraduate education at UC, Berkeley and his MBA at UC, Davis.

Community work has always been important to Ryan. While he was at UC, Davis, he volunteered for Habitat for Humanity. He also served on My Sister's House (MSH) Fun Run Committee in 2003 to mobilize and market cross community participation. MSH is the first domestic violence shelter in Sacramento to specifically identify and address the unique needs of women and children in the Asian Pacific Islander communities impacted by domestic violence.

Ryan currently serves on the Telecommunication and Marketing Committees for CAPITAL. In his academic, professional, and community work, Ryan concentrates on marketing strategy and implementation - developing and strengthening relationships between public and private companies, and creative and innovative outreach and network opportunities across diverse communities.

Sonney L. Chong, Board Member graduated from Washington University School of Dental Medicine and has a dental practice in the south area of Sacramento for the past 20 years. Sonney's vision founded CAPITAL in 1995 and he has served as the Chair of CAPITAL since its inception. Under Sonney's leadership, CAPITAL has grown from 27 organizations to over 95 member organizations within the Asian Pacific Islander community.

Sonney has also served as Past President of the Chinese American Council of Sacramento. He is on the Sacramento Sheriff's Community Advisory Board, University of California Medical Center's Leadership Council, Wells Fargo Bank Community Advisory Board and a Senior Fellow of the American Leadership Forum, Mountain Valley Chapter. Sonney also served on the California State University Sacramento (CSUS) Community Advisory Board to the President from 1998 -2003 and was the Chair of the Board from 2001-2002. In April of 2001, Governor Gray Davis appointed Sonney to serve on the Board of Directors for Cal Exposition and State Fair; he was elected Vice Chair of the Board of Directors in 2004. He is also on the Board of Directors for Project Help and Sacramento Asian Pacific Chamber of Commerce's Board of Director. Sonney has been instrumental with CAPITAL's success in building relationships and alliances with cross communities in Sacramento.

Dr. Jennifer Choy, Board Member, worked a short stint as a pharmacist and then recognized her passion is to work with people and went to medical school. Jennifer graduated Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine in 1995 Magna Cum Laude. Jennifer is a Diplomate for American Board of Internal Medicine. She received the Pfizer Award for excellence in Osteopathic manipulation and has devoted her time and energy to the research and study of Natural Medicine and Osteopathic manipulative techniques for the primary prevention of disease.

Dr. Jennifer Choy works at Kaiser Permanente in the Adult Medicine department. She is also on the Domestic Violence Task Force and the Family Violence Prevention Fund where she has made tremendous strides in the area of training doctors on recognizing domestic violence. She is part of the team responsible for the recent creation of screening for domestic violence and has devoted countless hours on creating the infrastructure and implementation of this project which will be launched as a pilot project for all Kaiser Adult Medicine clinics in the Sacramento Valley region. Jennifer served as Board of Directors and now serves on the Advisory Board to My Sister’s House, the first domestic violence shelter in Sacramento to specifically identify and address the unique needs of women and children in the Asian Pacific Islander communities impacted by domestic violence .

Yoshinori H. T. Himel, Board Member has been a U.S. Department of Justice attorney since 1976 and an Assistant United States Attorney since 1979, Mr. Himel has volunteered to reach out to racial and ethnic, religious and handicap communities as a member of the Sacramento Superior Court's Community Focused Court Planning Committee since 1998. He was one of the organizers of CAPITAL in 1995, and since then has managed Web and listserv communications among Sacramento's API communities as its telecommunications chair.

As a member of the Voluntary Legal Services Program Committee from 1981 to present; as a board member and officer of Asian Legal Services Outreach from 1985 to 1989 and supporter from 2004 to present; as a board member, officer and committee chair of the Legal Center for the Elderly and Disabled from 1982 to 1987, and as a member of the Sacramento Regional Committee of the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund from 1995 to 1997, he reaches out to indigent, minority and handicapped communities in need of legal assistance. He was responsible for outreach to local Asian Pacific Islander bar associations as president, officer, and delegate in the Asian/Pacific Bar of California from 1982 to 1996. In the Sacramento County Bar Association, he has been on the editorial board of the SACRAMENTO LAWYER magazine from 1986 to present and was its editor in chief in 1999-2000. In the Asian/Pacific Bar Association of Sacramento, he was the founding president in 1981-82, was a longtime board member, founded its newsletter, NOTA BENE, in 1986, and chairs the Community Services Committee.

Jeanie Lee, Board Member has been involved in community service for over ten years. She is the current Vice Chair of CAPITAL and one of its founding members. She has served on CAPITAL's Executive Committee as past Treasurer and current Membership Chair. Jeanie also serves on the Chinese American Council of Sacramento (CACS) Board and is an advisory committee member for the Ping Yuen Project in downtown Sacramento.

She is the Past President of the Sacramento Chinese Community Service Center (SCCSC). Before starting her tenure on the Service Center Board, she was the treasurer of CACS for many years and helped to increase the treasury from $200 to over $20,000 at the time of her departure. Jeanie served on the MSH Fun Run Committee and was instrumental in coordinating the registration of over 1,200 runners/walkers for the MSH Fun Run.

Jeanie is a professor at the Yuba Community College and the elected treasurer of the Yuba College Faculty Association. She manages a $250,000 budget with the sole responsibility of making budgeting and investment decisions.
